Err ... "Journey *of* the Sorcerer". From the album
"One of these Nights", by the Eagles, released in
1975, three years before the first radio series aired.
Blimey. Nobody has ever picked me up on that before, never knew tht was
wrong. Oh well. I stand corrected. <puts CD on>
And yes, I remember both being played on the radio.
I suspect the thing lacking about the background noise
is ... the background noise. The state of the art has
come on a *looong* way since 1978, when it was all done
using inch-wide analogue tape and people doing strange
things with microphones in rooms with egg-boxes for
wallpaper.
It was exciting stuff back then, the first radio play
to make really good use of the new stereo radios.
No, It's something to do with the background music I think. There's not
too much in the original series when there's no sound or music in the
background.
For those interested there's a complete discography for the first 2 series
in the back of the Hitch Hiker's scriptbook, well worth getting. Oh and
while we're plugging books on HHGttG Neil Gaimon's (yes, that one) Don't
Panic is also a good read on how the radio series was recorded.

might also interest people. I'm hoping it's got his tribute to Peter Jones
on it which I remember hearing at the time.
And I believe there's some Tertiary phase CDs due in October
Am I showing my age much?
No more than I !
