A little confused about this thread as the release
date for Going Postal is not until October 7th. Why do
people expect it to be on sale before the release
date?
Ah.
There is a long standing tradition of Terry Pratchett books appearing
waaaaay before their release date. They just do. I've bought some nearly
a month in advance of the official date. Honest. This has got a little
better in recent years since the stock has been embargoed till a certain
date.
This has lead to the mad Pratchett fans amongst us playing.......
HUNT THE NEW TERRY PRATCHETT BOOK !
It's a fun game as it involves going into lots of book shops.
I quote the definitive email of 25 Oct 2001, 17 April 2001, 12 Oct 2000,
5Oct 1999 etc etc etc ...... for the rules:
As long term Terry Pratchett book buyers (or readers of this mail list
who've watched as we've played previous rounds of this game - usually
rather briefly !) know "published" is a relative term - the record is
finding it a month before publication date held by Feet of Clay and
Hammick's Epsom.
The rules are simple:
Whoever tells us via
IFIS Announce (which is per the rules) where we can
walk into a shop that has it in stock and buy a copy wins. In stock is the
operative phrase - pre-orders do not count!
Since the abolition of the net book agreement bonus points are awarded
for finding it cheap - any sub tenner reports on the hardback are gratefully
received.....
Entries involving the words "
Amazon.co.uk" are void unless they really
do have it in stock early.
Lets go shopping .....
