Off topic, I know, but I was hoping someone out there could help me.
Are DVD-Rom drives region encoded? If so, is there a way to override that?

They are for the purposes of playing films (but for software ???)
There are ways round it though I know not what.
Personally I settle for my Wharfdale and multiregion hack.

There are two main region locks for PC DVD.
Hardware lock (on the drive itself)
Software lock (on the player software).
Software lock can be easily circumvented using DVD genie (www.inmatrix.com)
Hardware locks can be a bit more troublesome, and depending on your drive,
will require either a firmware flash, or the use of a utility to reset the
region changing counter.
What drive make and model have you got? If you let us know, then I can point
you at a means of removing the region code locking if it exists.
