Talking about Anime, here's some info:
Walt Disney has brought the US rights to the Ghibli studio ("Mononoke Hime"
and "Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi"). But they are refusing to discuss a
release date for "Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi" as "Mononoke Hime" was a
bit too violet for the Disney image. Luckily Pathe has the UK rights so we
can expect "Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi" to be release next year in the
UK. Strangely enough "Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi" is more family
friendly.
"Mononoke Hime" is the second hightest earning film at 150 million dollars
(only 2 million of which was from the US) and "Sen to Chihiro no
Kamikakushi" has already earned 200 million dollars in Japan alone and will
probably overtake "Titanic" to be number one.
Daniel
N.B. English titles "Princess Mononoke" and "Spirited Away", both excellence
films.

So am I the only one wondering why they bought films that were too violent for them to release?

The answer is "because they are competition for the Disney marketplace." Buying
the competitor and preventing them from releasing is a good way to prevent the
US market from being influenced by anything that might, horror of horrors, wean
people off the Disney pap. BTW: Nick, can you impose the normal penalties for
people posting HTML? Thanks.

Including you? :-)
I already sent an email entitled "yuck!" to Andy. What was the "normal

Yes, my bad. I accidentally hit [CTRL]+[ENTER] as I was editing the message
and sent it before it was ready. I usually remove all the html crud as I
personlly loathe it, but an unfortunate key combination meant it got away
from me.
Including you? :-)
Damn, you got there first... :-)

I have no idea. Repeatedly umping on people for an honest mistake seems to
be the current one :-)

And of course my "umping" I mean "dumping". Sorry. I've been kind of
distracted this morning with meetings about how to save our arses given the
exceedingly dismal outlook for my company at the moment. To use an awful
analogy from business literature we've been trying to find out what colour
our parachutes are...
Anyone want an NT Administrator? :-)

What's the punishment for top-posting then? :-)

Four ideas spring to mind:
1/ They are a bunch of morons.
2/ They saw 150 millions dollars in Japan and though they were on to a
winner.
3/ As Simon says they want to kill the competition.
4/ They are a bunch of morons.
The reason Disney gives is that "Mononoke Hime" was a flop in the US, but it
only had a limited release in the cinemas and very little advertising - much
like in the UK where it was only stocked in the shop for 2 weeks and
appeared in 3 (yes! 3) cinemas. So they were already gunning for it before
the release... so option 2 seems unlikely.

I mean to say "highest Japanese film" - Final Fantasy is not even
close...
