another.com charging
A lot of IFIS users have another.com addresses
another.com have just decided to give you about 3 day's notice, holding your
email to ransom, as they're going to start charging 15 quid a year for their
services. There are ISPs who give you COMPLETE internet access, email, news,
web, the lot, for less than that! The only advantage another.com have is their
extensive selection of amusing domain names... Oh yes, and if you registered
your own domain name through them, they own that too, and you're seriously
unlikely to be able to transfer it elsewhere in time, if ever. :-(
Loverly!
If anyone wants an ifis.org.uk email address, just ask me. It'll cost you the
paltry sum of renewing your IFIS membership every year, and it can be
forwarded to whatever REAL email address you happen to want to use at the time
- EG you could have a temporary AOL account, forward your IFIS mail there,
then change to a temporary demon account, and forward the same ifis address
there, maybe decide you'd rather use postmaster.co.uk or yahoo, and switch
your ifis.org.uk forwarding there - and people need never know you've changed
as they can seamlessly mail yourname@ wherever you happen to be at
the time!
For example, I'm nick@, and I'll probably always be
nick@ unless I ever decide to stop being an IFIS member (hey,
stranger things have happenned!). It forwards to one of my "real" addresses,
and if I ever change, nick@ will forward there too. I'll admit
yourname@ isn't quite as cool as @shagadelic.co.uk or @horny.co.uk
or @2hot2handle.co.uk, but it's a fifth of the cost, and anyway, if you wanted
your own domain, I might be able to sort that out cheaper than another.com too.
Let me know what name@ address(es) you want, and where you want
them forwarded. If you ever want to change the forwarding, let me know. Then
just keep paying your annual IFIS membership. An "address for life", simple as
that.
