Wanna read some scary stuff about bacteria?
Two possible interpretations of this:
a) We're doomed to contaminate any other planets we find.
b) Life on all planets evolved from the same starting points.
I'm sure there's more, but these ones spring to mind.

I was led to believe that bacteria was being picked up and dropped into
the upper atmosphere, on a fairly regular basis, by passing metiorites.

Picked up from where?
Other planets?
That means:
a) We're probably fine on other planets, because we've been
cross-contaminating each other for millenia.
b) Any day now we might get a super bacteria from another solar system land
on our planet and kill us all.

If it's picked up from other planets, doesn't this put paid to the sceptics
who think that alien life doesn't exist?
re: b). Sort of like War of the worlds in reverse really.

Never under-estimate the naivite/idiocy/blind
hope/whatever of a man with a Bible!
