Okay everyone out there lets all take a deap breathe shall we.
The events:
i) Phil posted a blatant troll to the mailing list.
ii) Phil's points were refuted by 3-4 people (ish).
iii) A general flame war then ensues.
Okay, yes Phil posted a stupid, ill thought out, ill researched
article. That wasn't clever. His grounds were (correct me if
I'm wrong Phil) to detirmine whether there was interest in the
library. Okay so it was almost on a par with posting to the
B5 newsgroup on how DS9 is far better (cos it's got a mysterious
evil forces ongoing plot) in order to see what the interest in B5
was but still.
Once the flamewar has started Phil has correctly moved the discussion
to email to avoid wasting mailing list bandwidth on what is essentially
a misinterpretation of the facts. Phil is an old enough hand in netiquette
in general to post to the mailing list informing them of the resolution
of the problem once it has been resolved. As it stands Phil has not
refuted the points made on the mailing list only in email and that is
where the discussion should remain.
(Oh god I've turned into one of those why can't we live all together
in peace and harmony posters!!)
