Lord of the Rings - animation.
In case no-one else has noticed the cartoon gets a release on vhs and dvd
in November....
No I hadn't noticed. I was looking for this earlier in the year because I'm
told its really good. Any news on whether there is a R1 version as well and
what (if any) differences there are?
No idea at all, try amazon.com or play247 and see what they have.
It's not bad from what I remember. Different .... The animation style is very strange
...
The style is strange because the way they did a lot of it - especially
the battle scenes - was by filming 1000s of extras moshing around
the place and then animating over the top of them. The result
is pretty cool for the time - but of course the state of the art has
rather moved on since 1978.
Tolkien fans tend to either love or hate it, though - and they
ran out of money, so only the 1st book is filmed.
Let's hope this new mob don't do the same thing. If it bombs, they
will, depend on it.

I'm under the impression that they've filmed all 3 films back to back - this
is how they're able to plan their releases so far in advance. And even if
the 1st one bombs, the other 2 could still be put straight to video (or
DVD).
Having seen the trailers I'd be really surprised if it does badly though.
