Idiot boy here has been a little bit distracted over the last week or so
and not only missed the first of the new Randall and Hopkirk's but also
forgot about Dune on the Sci Fi channel. Did anyone happen to see it
(record it?) the other night and if so what did you think ? (barring the
previous naysayers - I know what you think Darren !)
I've spotted Blackstar have it on preorder for 26/11 ..... I'm a little
tempted.....

Hi,
I saw it on cable...
It was strange, for large chunks it was very close to the book. They taken
out a lot
of the "thinking bits" and background as these are hard to fit into a TV
format. When
it was in this mode the dialogue and scenes are just copy for Herbert.
Then it switches to the "forgot the book mode" and sends the next 10 minutes
making
up its own storyline.
Overall it still quite close to the book when its in mode one, but when it
isn't - it isn't!
For example - Leto sends 5 minutes ranting "They tried to kill me son" and
the scene
follow the book - then it goes off the rails and introduces the Princess to
Paul at the banquet.
The traitor and Duke dialogue follows the book - they then cut out the bit
which gives it a twist
(The traitor saying "I know what going to happen..." etc).
It's far more understated that either the film or book and loses a lot of
the punch and weirdness
which made the book good.
I watched it after I saw a ST:NG episode and it was more enjoyable than
that; there's little new
SF on TV at the moment (Farscape is about it). So I will watch part 2 and 3.
Daniel

there's little new SF on TV at the moment (Farscape is about it).
To be fair though, over the last couple of months we've been spoiled.
We've had Farscape, Lexx, HHGTTG, Buffy, Stargate, 7 Days, Earth: Final
Conflict, Voyager... I'm sure I've missed some.
We've had it pretty damn good over the Summer.
If (like me) you're a terrestrial-only viewer, then most of these have been
new.

I forgot to record it too.
If there's anyone out there that did, we seem to have at least 3 people want
to buy you beer.

Last Saturday. I had been tipped off (via both NTK and the TV-Cream mail lists, both of
which are worth subscribing to) but due to a very bad love life incident last week I
wasn't really taking much in.
However a video shaped parcel has arrived from Mr Sean this AM containing what I very much
suspect is a video of said show.
Incidentally the first series is due on video and DVD on 29/10. And speaking of things
due out .....
