"To begin, this morning's Variety reports that John (Mission Impossible 2)
Woo and Digital Rim Entertainment have signed a deal with Mirage Studios to
both develop and produce a CGI-animated feature film based on Mirage's
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. To date, the Turtle franchise has made over $4
billion.
According to the trade report, the CGI Turtles film will cost between $40
and $60 million, and will return the Turtles to their darker, edgier, comic
book roots.
Variety reports: "Digital Rim has already produced a new animated "Turtles"
TV pilot, which inspired the company to pursue the film rights. The pilot is
currently being shopped at the networks. "I've always loved the 'Teenage
Mutant Ninja Turtles,' " Woo added. "It's one of the greatest
action-adventure properties ever."
Currently, the film is without a home studio or distributor, but should be
released in time for the 2002 holiday season."
