Strange and mysterious things....

Hello all, here are some interesting, strange, but true things I have discovered over the past few days which i thought you might find interesting.

Firstly, apparently the character of Captain Jonathan Archer in the new Trek series, Star Trek:Merchandise or whatever its called was originally to have had the first name Jeffrey. Then some British people told the Trek people not to. Shame really....

Secondly, I found out yesterday that among the actors considered for the rold of Captain Janeway in Voyager was none other than floppy haired toff British Actor Nigel Havers. Now that would have been interesting....

Thirdly, from my newly purchased copy of Doctor Who Magazine I see that "(Doctor Who) Audio producers Big Finish hae reportedly approached Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Gold Blend Ad star Anthony Stewart Head to play the lead villain in the linked 'Exelcis' trilogy due for release in February, April and June 2002.

And Finally, it seems that top scifi/fantasy/horror novelist Kim Newman will be writing the first in a series of Doctor Who Novellas to be published by Telos Publishing. http://www.telos.co.uk.

yet? The last I heard they were basing it on the Akira class, and had sacke=
d the guy who used to do the ship design for TNG, DS9 and VOY. Things are n=

I'm not holding any hope whatsoever for the new series. With a bit of luck
it will be the series that finally kills off the Trek TV series franchise,
but then I thought Voyager would do that as well. They've got to do
something wildly different before I even consider watching it.

Conversion isn't a problem - hmmmmmm NTSC playback on a 130 quid vcr - and believe it or
not I can get very passable NTSC -> PAL copies out of my machine.

What I could do with is a copy of Legend of the Rangers - any idea when that airs ?

I think it's either September or October - I'm not entirely sure.

A little cruise round the site does tend to indicate that the ship is the one that Chris
advertised here http://www.users.qwest.net/~buckleys/sidebyside.jpg as being the new
Enterprise. (They've even got little icons featuring the ship next to all the Enterprise
news stories)

The ship is registered NX-01 for those who care about these things....

I don't think the design is so bad. Starfleet has reused & upgraded designs over a
number of years - Constitution -> Enterprise as one example, have a look at how all the
shuttles inherit design principles from the Galileo, and compare the Nebula with the
Miranda class. (And that's without the basic Enterprise design of Saucer section,
secondary hull and 2 nacelles in roughly the same configuration that we see echoed again
and again. It's not out of the question that a 24th Century starfleet designer would go
back to an earlier design, enlarge the spaceframe and build it out of currently available
parts.
