Executive Stance
Due to the woorying tendancy for society members to take the opinions of
people who happen to be on the committee as the opinion of the committee,
we have decided to inform the society of where we as a whole stand on
various issues. This stance could contradict anything said by committee
members when they are expressing their personal views. This is not
intentional, just means that their opinion is not held by the majority of
the committee. Obviously if a committee member says "As chairman /
treasurer / secretary / publicity officer etc I believe ..." then they
are speaking in their official capacity but if they are insulting you,
chatting etc. they are expressing their personal opinions.
Moving on, the exec.'s stance on the LIBRARY is:
Currently, the library is in boxes in the cupboard at the back of the
Union. Unfortunately, the tech crew has presently stacked various parts
of their equipment in front of this cupboard. As even Dan Brown cannot
get into the cupboard (and it is the Sport's Cupboard) we can't either!
Therefore, moving the Library would be difficult. Also, the cupboard
that Shams did eventually order arrived without any shelves. Dan has
ordered the shelves and will order more cupboards if and when we need
them.
The committee is doing the best it can but we have no control over the
tech crew or their equipment.
Concerning the XMAS DINNER, due to the lateness of booking and the fussy
nature of certain members, the Christmas dinner has been postponed until
next term. This will be easier to organise because:-
a) the chairman (who does most of the organising for this event)
will have more free time due to only having two courses plus project
next term,
b) restaurants will not be full
c) getting a Friday / Saturday night will be less complex and
so easier to do - many restaurants refuse to have Xmas dinners on
these nights.
I (the chairman not Jacquie (split personality ahoy!)) apologise for this
development but people have been unwilling to give a firm yes or no so
booking was difficult as we had an unspecified number and couldn't really
say what dates were best for everyone.
We hope this clears up any misunderstandings, confusion etc. and
satisfies those people who are wanting the official stance on any topic.
If there are any other topics that you wish the Exec / Committee to
explain their stance on then tell any of us and we will do our best to
inform you as soon as possible (or as soon as we all talk to each other
anyway!)
