Reminder! Today is TOWEL DAY. Be a hoopy frood, and wear your towel, in
memory of Douglas Adams, who dies 2 weeks ago today:

My copy of HHGttG isn't handy at the moment but I seem to recall many uses of
towels are listed there some of which involve clothing.

Incidentally there's a new CD release of Hitch Hikers out from the BBC. It's
still cut in episode 3 - my lodger wanted a copy for his Brother's Birthday so
we got him one off Amazon, I don't compulsively buy each new issue of it to
check. Maybe we aught to mail the Beeb to find out why it's cut .....

If that's the normal bit that gets cut (it has a Pink Floyd song in it I
think - I never actually heard the original radio broadcast), it's to do
with copyright - although it's OK to use them in a radio broadcast without
having to ask permission you can't do that once the broadcast is being sold
to the public. One of the interviews with Douglas Adams explained why but I
can't remember exactly where I read it.

Will do - although don't be surprised if it takes a couple of weeks - I'm in
the middle of the US which doesn't like admitting that anything else in the
galaxy exists! (Colorado does this even more than the rest of the US)

OK, it's actually in Chapter 22 in the UK version and Chapter 21 in the US
version (God alone know what other changes they've made!). Anyway, it's the
bit where Ford, Arthur, Trillian and Slartibartfast are at the party and the
attached text file has both versions - I didn't want to type it in the email
in case I hit some kind of copyright thing ('cause the emails end up on the
website where anyone can view it).

The UK version has 281 words while the US version has 713 words. Mind you,
I'm pretty sure I've read the extra stuff that's in the US version somewhere
in one of the UK books (or I'm going completely insane through exposure to
too much altitude - remember I'm about 6000-6500 feet up here.)

If you can't read it, though, let me know and I'll send it to you
individually in an email but not to the IFIS list. (Also note, I use my
work email and I won't be reading it as often over the weekend).

I'm trying to work out *which* piece of music in the clip is the offending one. There's
3: Shine on you Crazy Diamond by Pink Floyd, Rock and Roll Music (Elvis ?) and Also Sparch
Zarthustra by Strauss. Since DNA was great mates with Dave Gilmour of the Floyd - BTW
the previously mentioned guitar on stage with Floyd incident purportedly occurs on DNA's
42nd Birthday - and Also Sparch Zarthustra is a classical piece I'd go for Rock and Roll
music being the offender.

It doesn't seem to stop the numerous appearances of Jean-Michel Jarre's Oxygene through
Ep3 or indeed the regular appearance of the Eagle's Journey to the Sorcerer as the theme
music.
