When was IFIS founded?

Can any of the older (even older than me) members tell me when they
think IFIS was founded? Don't we even have a founder member or 2 on this
list? The website says "IFIS [...] has existed at RHBNC/RHUL for at
least 19 years", which I've TRIED to update once a year, but I might
have miss-counted, and I was wondering whether it had a big birthday
coming up soon. If so, how should we celebrate?!? :-)

Patric the Magus would be your best bet - he pre-dates me (does that make
him a Pre-dator?) and I joined in '82, when it already existed (but I can't
find or recall anything on how long it had been going before then). It
already had a hefty collection of books though.

On ancient historical matters, I have found in my archives -er, boxes of
junk - the almost complete (no centerfold artwork, which I think Jenny Bray
did and probably reclaimed) original copy of Impure Scientist from June 84.
Some time when I make it to the pub again (it's more difficult now I've
rejoined the gainfully employed) I'll hand it over for the official
archives.

remembers it being around in 81. I think that - in the lack of any other firm evidence -
we are 20 at some pt this year. Party !

I'd be inclined to say older, although I can't prove it.

This may be a stupid suggestion, but perhaps the Union will have some sort
of records?
They must have had accounts. Society theorics would have been on them.
