Science Fiction:
We have had some copies of the latest David Weber, Worlds of Honor
V.3: Changer of Worlds. Unfortunately we are already sold-out, but
this is a heads-up that it is around and we will be having more in a
couple of weeks. If you are interested in a copy, call the shop (020
7734 3483) and reserve a copy with Rhonda.
Robert Silverberg, The King of Dreams. Many years ago I took on
holiday a book entitled Lord Valentine's Castle, and spent many happy
hours reading the tale from Majipoor. It's good to see the series
still going strong. Prestimion is preparing to take up his post in the
Labyrinth as Pontifex, and appoints Prince Dekkeret to succeed him as
coronal. But in Zimroel, plans are afoot to bring discord and danger
to Majipoor. UK trade paperback, #11.99.
Alan Dean Foster, Kingdoms of Light. The once peaceful land of
Gowdlands is in the grip of fear and tyranny. Conquered by hideous
creatures, all the people have to look forward to are many years of
dark rule. But fate is at hand to give the beleaguered souls hope.
When a band of goblins destroy the Gowdlands most brilliant mage, they
little suspect his final trick. His death unleashes a powerful
enchantment, that transform his beloved pets, three cats, a dog, a
songbird, and a giant boa into human form. Still possessed of their
animal instincts, and backed-up by magical talents this band of six
are the Gowdlands last, best hope. US hardcover, #18.50.
Tim Powers, Night Moves and other stories. Subterranean Press have
excelled in producing collectable editions of some the best writers
around, and this latest is no exception. It collects all Powers short
stories to date, and is signed by the author, limited to 1500 copies.
It may sound like a lot, but experience has taught me this is not so.
In a few years, some of you may regret not buying this. You can't have
my copy, but we do have a few others for sale. US hardcover, #35.00.
New in paperback:
Terry Goodkind, Faith of the Fallen. This is a trade paperback edition
of the latest volume in the Sword of Truth saga. Having received a
vision, one he distrusts, Richard must journey, taking the ailing
Kahlan with him, to a place that may hold a grim fate for all. UK,
#11.99.
China Melville, Perdido Street Station. On the streets of the giant
metropolis of New Crobuzan humans, mutants, and arcane races spend
their lives under the watch of an ancient parliament. When a stranger
arrives the event heralds the start of something that will change the
city forever. UK, #7.99.
David Weber, Ashes of Victory. When the Republic of Haven publicly
announces the execution of Honor Harrington the officials do so safe
in the knowledge that she is already dead. Except she isn't. Having
escaped the prison planet Hell, she is on her way back, and she's
bring someone who has something to say that the PRH may not like. US,
#6.99.
Robert Asprin & Jody Lynn Nye, License Invoked. Magical mayhem as two
government agents, one from the UK and the other the US, are assigned
to protect a rock singer who is being stalked by something
supernatural. X-files with laughs. That's if you don't already laugh
at the X-files of course. US, #6.99.
