Outgoing E-mail changes from RHBNC TO RHUL
As part of the college's official name change from RHBNC to RHUL (see
http://www.rhul.ac.uk/for-staff/info/namedoc.html ) as of 12.00 NOON ON
WEDNESDAY 24TH JANUARY all outgoing e-mail from the college will appear to
in the form @rhul.ac.uk. Email sent to the old address will continue to
be delivered.

Thanks to everyone who let me know.

For reference, I believe ifis.org.uk is now ready for this change... but
anyway, I'll be in work on wednesday and if anything DOES go horribly
wrong, I'll probably spot it pretty quickly.

Does this mean dcs.rhbnc.ac.uk is also changing to dcs.rhul.ac.uk, or is
it just rhbnc.ac.uk itself, by the way? I don't mind either way, but
I'll probably need to know later.

but the old addresses will be valid for another two years or something.

Yes, I'll still be able to deliver to them, but you won't (presumably)
be sending from them. As soon as you start sending from a different
address, ifis.org.uk needs to know, otherwise the mailing-lists will say
"whoah! who's this trying to post to the list? I don't recognise that
address! They're probably a nasty spammer or something, but I'll send it
to Nick to check".

You're currently allowed to post from ANY of your rhbnc.ac.uk /
rhul.ac.uk / dcs.rhbnc.ac.uk / dcs.rhul.ac.uk / cs.rhul.ac.uk addresses.
Once the change-over has actually happenned, I'll start changing the
addresses that I'm sending TO. I'll probably have to tweak a few web
pages slightly too, but not much.

Change of domain name from RHBNC to RHUL
----------------------------------------
You may recall that the college is changing its domain name from RHBNC
to RHUL. The new name has been accepted for some months, and the next
step is that outgoing mail will appear to come from RHUL. This change
will happen at noon on Wednesday 24th January; at the same time we
will simplify CompSci domain names so that dcs.rhbnc.ac.uk is replaced
by cs.rhul.ac.uk for all purposes. So your recommended e-mail
address is now something like
I.Surname@
Old addresses will continue to be accepted for 2 years, but if you are
subscribed to mailing lists you can avoid problems in the future by
unsubscribing before the change and resubscribing afterwards.

Your most important configuration files can be edited by typing
fixrhbnc
at a Unix prompt. For help in fixing other files type
man rhbnc2rhul
