Mumble Toys Story disc 3 groan ****dy DVD player whinge.....

Anyone know where I can get hold of a copy of the DVD spec ? I'm having some
problems with my TS Box Set Disc 3. Firstly the menus won't load - but I won't
moan too much _this_ time as it merely throws you back to the statup screen
(unlike Gladiator which locked up the player !) still allowing me to access MOST
of the Titles on the disc using the goto button on the remote. I say most
because Disney - in their infinite wisdom - have divided the disc into over 100
titles which for people like me with a 2 digit title display means problems....
Anyway - is this a kosher thing for them to be doing ?

( I suspect the 100 + titles is what's fouling the menus up and they're stored
on a higher title #. Like the guide to hidden jokes. grrrrr)

Doesn't happen to be a Wharfedale does it? 750 model? Then you probably need
to go and get it swapped for a 750S, which Tesco should do because the 750
cannot play Gladiator disc 2 and a few others.

For those who didn't see it Disc vs Player incompatibilities cropped up on
Watchdog on Friday - specifically the problem playing Gladiator's extras
disc on the Wharfdale. This was looking like it was the player at fault
but apparently Columbia Tristar are remastering the disc so it will work.

The Toy Story extra disc on the other hand is looking very much like Disney
have F***ed up big time. There's a long list of players it's failed on (inc
the Playstation 2 :-) - details at http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/ ) Same problem
affects the Fantasia box set extras disc.

Interestingly enough the R1 versions of all 3 of these discs *DO* seem to
work on the affected players (and the R1 releases have some additional
commentary in) so there's really no excuse for them not to work off of the
R2 discs. Hopefully Columbia/TriStar's step will elicit similar moves from
Disney.

I tried swapping my 750 for a 750s - no joy none in stock. Apart from
these recent problems I'm very pleased with the machine.

And on a final note the BBC may regret raising the subject - a recently
reported disc with problems is their own Wallace and Grommit disc ;-)
