First off a new project that deserves a look and support. Black Gate
is new fantasy magazine from the states. Published as a large format
paperback, similar in size to fantasy art books, but priced at very
reasonable #6.99, this magazines aims to highlight the best the genre
has to offer. This first issue (Spring 2001), as well as appearing
very early, has interviews, reviews, essays, and short
fiction/extracts. The highlight in my opinion is an extract from
Michael Moorcock's new Eternal Champion novel, The Dreamthief's
Daughter, due March next year.
R.A. Salvatore (Mr Forgotten Realms), Servant of the Shard. Third
volume in the Paths of Darkness series (volume four Sea of Swords is
due next October before you start asking), and it's the usual dark mix
of assassins, drow, heroes and villains. US hardcover, #18.50.
Two in paperback this week:
Ann Marston, Sword and Shadows, final volume of The Sword in Exile
trilogy. US, #6.50.
Connie Willis, Miracle and Other Christmas Stories. A collection of
eight stories (two previously unpublished) that illustrate the
generosity and goodwill of the season. US, #6.99 (Rhonda made me
include this).
