Ken McLeod starts a new series with Cosmonaut Keep and I have to say
this one looks a real corker. In a nutshell, having sent their people
out to the stars the Russians announce first contact. However they are
not telling the whole truth. For thousands of light years from earth
the humans are living happily with amongst other species. But for
Gregor, a marine biologist student, the arrival of a merchant ship
heralds the start of something even greater. UK hard cover, #16.99.
Volume two of Ian Irvine's The View from the Mirror series, The Tower
on the Rift finds Tensor and Llian fleeing with the Mirror of Aachen
across a land ravaged by war and Karan pursued by those who would take
advantage of her abilities. UK paper back, #6.99.
Theodore Sturgeon was one of the greatest writers of the twentieth
century, and like many chose the field of science fiction to explore
the human condition. For those of you who have not read any of his
work this latest collection of stories is a great introduction.
Selected Stories, US paper back, #11.99.
After a ten year gap Lawrence Watt-Evans returns to his much loved
land of Ethshar in Night of Madness. When an object falls from the sky
one night it sends out waves of magic. Some people wake in a fit of
fear, but others awake to find themselves with a command of magic. One
such is Lord Faran who sees his new found powers as a way to take
control of the kingdom, and it is up to his nephew Lord Hanner to stop
him and return order to the land. US hard cover, #18.50.
