University of Washington thingy

Does anybody know what the University of Washington Listpost thing was?

I got two of them this morning, with slightly different numbers on =
them.

They were sent (apparently) to the chat list, so I'm wondering who's =
being a
silly B"=A3$%r and signing IFIS up to some bizarre mailing list. I =
could do
without it, especially considering I don't even know what this list is =
for!

Don't worry. Mailing-list maintainers tend to get on fairly well with
mailing-list maintainers, so if I find the silly $#!+ has actually
MANAGED to do what they were intending, I'll get hold of the UofW
mailing list admin and ask them for detailed logs, then see who deserves
to lose their internet access.

Fair enough, Nick. I gathered it was something like that, I just didn't want
millions of TOTALLY irrelevant e-mails cluttering up my in-box, and I doubt
if anyone else did either.

Let us know how you get on as he/she seems to have

Never mind "lose their internet access". You didn't authorise "chat" for
this kind of thing, did you? So that'll be unauthorised access, which is
Misuse of Computers Act 1991, and someone can go to prison. For up to two
years, if I remember right.

Would we be required to demonstrate what measures we take to prevent
unauthorised access ?

As a side note would it be a good idea to think about restricting posting
rights to certain individuals IE the receivers (subscribers) to the list and
other known email addresses that they use ? For example I occasionally post
from my work account as well as reading and posting from home.

Philip - who's experience of SW Trains this morning was not his
