Dear all,
I am curious to know why the Society meets in the Barley Mow......
Admittedly it is a nice place, and I have enjoyed pissing/vomiting in the
car-park on several occasions, but would it not be easier (and cheaper for
all concerned, esp. for those who don't have rich parents or a full-time
job) to meet somewhere on campus, which would also mean a shorter walk for
the vast majority?
For non students who show up later, getting into Founders after a
particular
hour can be problematic. Non campus no problems there at any hour.
.
What are non-students doing in the society anyway? There are no problems
getting into Founders before 11, i.e. when any reasonable social activities
(film, bar being open) are taking place.
For a while last year we met in the Crosslands Suite after the film, which
was pretty cool as it has plenty of seating and space (plus cheap drinks),
and was conveniently situated for all those living both on and adjacent to
campus. Freshers and new members would be more likely to turn up throughout
the year if a meeting place on campus were used, whereas those of us who are
very busy (or lazy) are not necessarily going to consider it worthwhile
travelling all the way over to Englefield Green just for a chat and an
overpriced Coke!
The Chairbeing has called me lazy for saying this (she may have a point,
let's face it), but personally I have neither the time
Um what else are you doing? If we are talking about going for a drink, we
are
not talking constructive time anyway. What is an extra few minutes before
the drink?
What else am I doing? A sodding PhD, mate! A touch harder than whatever
your doing, I should think! You're not even a pissing student anyway, so
why the fuck should your tuppence-ha'penny worth be relevant? Campus bars
are far cheaper and much more affordable for those of us who aren't in
full-time employment.
nor the energy
I suspect this is more your problem. I concur with the chairbeing.
Really? Wanna go 15 rounds and find out who has more energy? I
gather you are the fat speccy bloke who can be often found hanging around
with younger people.....perhaps it is time that you started mixing with
those your own age? You think?
to
trek all the way over to The Village to spend my hard earned cash on
overpriced beverages, only to have to walk all the way back to the station
to get home.
Having lived on campus for the last four years, it is always a shame to see
facilities such as the Crosslands Suite frequently overlooked by many
societies for social activities.
Crosslands was booked on more than one occasion last year whilst
IFIS
was looking for a new pub/ waiting to see if the revamped Ascot (now
sadly the Monkey's Forehead) would be a suitable meeting place.
Stangely enough, it is consiodered more convenient to have a meeting place
which
does not become unavailable.
There are bars other than Crosslands, I think you will find.
Campus is quiet enough as it is,
especially at weekends, so it is not the best idea in the world for an
ever-expanding society such as
IFIS to base extremely necessary 'getting to
know you' sessions off-campus.
But that's just my opinion.........
As you say.
My opinion is that the Mow is a nicer environment than Crosslands and
never
unavailable. 15 minutes walk never hurt anybody

Your opinion is bollocks. If you want me to say that to your face, I will.
