I tried watching my R1 Abyss (special edition) DVD over the weekend, on my
Samsung DVD player, and found it basically unwatchable.
Most of the film was ok, but there were glitches early on where short
sections were repeated, and then later on it just froze, forcing me to jump
ahead, and miss huge chunks of film. Sometimes I only got a few seconds of
film before it froze again.
Basically I think it's because the DVD is trying to be a bit flash - they've
put the cinema release, and the extended version on the same disc. Obviously
there's software in there that tells the player to insert the extra scenes
for the extended version, and leave them out for the cinema version. This
software plainly doesn't work very well with my player.
What I'm curious about is whether anyone else has this DVD, and has played
it.
If anyone wants to borrow it and try, this can be arranged. The extra scenes
(what I've seen of them) are well worth having.
