News from Murder One
Partly a gratuitous advert for one of IFIS's top shops on the london
tour, but I've at least removed most of the non-relevent waffle....

SCIENCE FICTION:
The eagerly awaited third volume of George R.R. Martin's fantasy series
A Song of Ice and Fire has finally arrived. Entitled A Storm of Swords,
it is available as both a hard cover at =A317.99 or trade paperback at
=A311.99. Rhonda says this is her recommendation of the week. Other
notable books new in are:
Harry Turtledove, Sentry Peak, is a stand alone novel set in the
mythical land of Detina. It concerns a civil war between north and
southern provinces of the land that bears remarkable similarity to The
American Civil War. It is a US hard cover priced =A317.99.
David Drake, Lt. Leary Commanding, sequel to the very popular With the
Lightnings, more space faring naval adventure from one the genres
finest. Again a US hard cover priced =A317.99.
And finally, flying the flag for Britain, Stephen Baxter has a new
novel, Space, second volume in The Manifold Sequence and following on
from Time. Baxter goes from strength to strength, and his reputation
grows with every book. He really is our very own Bear/Benford et al.
Hard cover priced =A316.99.
Vampire lovers have a real treat in September. Orbit have picked up, and
will be publishing the Anita Blake:Vampire Hunter series. They will
begin with the first two in the series, Guilty Pleasures and The
Laughing Corpse. They are being published straight into paperback priced
=A35.99. The remaining titles will follow at a later date. This is
somewhat of a coup for us, as it was at Rhonda's recommendation that
Orbit look at the series. If your a fan of Buffy, or enjoy a decent
horror romp, then this series is definitely something you will want to
check out.
A few things to look out for:
Paula Volsky, The Grand Ellipse, US hard cover, September.
Christopher Stasheff, A Wizard in the Way, US hard cover, September
Tad Williams, Mountain of Black Glass:Otherland Vol.3, UK paperback,
September
Raymond Feist, Krondor:Tear of the Gods, UK hard cover, delayed until
November.
PREPARE TO BE SCARED!!
For all you Sci-Fi and Horror movie buffs, The Prince Charles Cinema is
hosting FRIGHTFEST 2000, on the weekend of 25th-28th August. The four
days include the World Premiere of ED GEIN, advance UK screenings of the
much talked about PITCH BLACK and SCARY MOVIE. Bizarrely there is a film
called CUT showing, which stars, and I kid you not, KYLIE MINOGUE and
MOLLY RINGWALD, the thought of which scares me enough. For more
information on further events you should go to the event website at
