Hurrah!!! Another season!!!
Oh dear. I'm not sure it's anywhere near as definite as you make out. TV Zonereports that they're filming 2 endings for the current season....

I maintain and will always that the X-Files has been going down hill since day1.
The Pilot is simply brilliant, and they've never got close to touching that
again.
Most S1 episodes are great - Deep Throat, Ice, Fallen Angel, EBE and the
Erlenmeyer Flask spring to mind. If you haven't seen them then make every
effort to try and get this*. Else my copies are sitting round Chris's house
for the time being ** After that the show started to get very bogged down in
it's own mythology and had no idea where it was going. A masterplan only works
if someone - the writers - know what it is in advance. I've seen some good
episodes recently - in particular Triangle.
* DVDs - anyone know if any Tescos have the 180 Wharfdale job in stock
** I'm going to move my videos home in the near future - can I PLEASE have TNG

I recall at the time someone wrote the X-Files up as the new Twin Peaks. By
chance I managed to catch the first few on SciFi recently and they are really
quite good....
