Rejoicing in my house cos Chorlton and the Wheelies is out on video on
Monday ! Well I suppose it's vaguely fantasy :-)

On a slightly more serious tone TV Zone reports Sky 1 is relaunching as a
mainstream entertainment channel in September. My response were:

Isn't it already ?
This is going to affect us isn't it ?

Sky has previously been a home to lots of sci fi: ST - from S4 TNG onwards
got aired there first, X-Files and Buffy (with a minor slip up in the 1998
scheduling) have had a good home on Sky. However some recent suspect sci-fi
programming decisions - Can you say Strangerers ? - have reflected badly on
the genre there :-( The 3 I mention above are no doubt safe but you have to
worry for less popular stuff like G vs E, Earth: Final Conflict etc

We've already had to suffer the Villa, Prickly Heat, endless chat shows and
Pokemon from Sky. Now this .....

Sky One! Mainstream Entertainment Channel!

For God's Sake NOOOOOOO!

There are already too many crap sit-coms, soap operas and fly on the wall
shite on satellite and crappy terrestrial as it is.

Unless they're intending to do Sky Cult or something. That could be cool.
Maybe Sci-Fi is going to get better then. They're now showing First Wave
series 2 (originally on Sky One) and GvsE is on Sci-Fi in the States.

Must apologise now if anything I write here looks like gibberish, I've
got a scary screen flicker thing and its very distracting (damn my
cheapskate, IT-supportless university)

Can anyone say "digital service." For those who haven't watched any sort of television
lately, satellite or terrestrial, Sky are making a big thing of their upcomming digital service.
Is it pushing reality to suggest that megalomaniac Murdoch will create his own "Sky-Fi
Channel" in an attempt to remove Sci-Fi from the marketplace.
Buffy, Angel, Voyager, X-Files and probably Roswell (if it
survives) will most likely remain on One, with other shows rotating
through the new channel.
