Doctor Who
This is my theory on how the BBC should start making Doctor Who again,
please read, comment, evaluate, slag off, rubbish, whatever....
1. Just start the damn programme, episode one of the new series with the new
Doctor already cast and having adventures, no tedious episode with Paul
McGann or Sylvester McCoy or whoever, lasting about 5 minutes before being
stupidly killed off. If fans want a lead up to the regeneration from the
Eighth Doctor into the Ninth, the BBC can do it in the series of novels or
something. Only the fans will care, and only they will read the novels.
2. No irritating continuity references, like the New Doctor saying "Reverse
the polarity of the neutron flow" or going on about the last time he bumped
into George Stevenson or whatever. By all means use old monsters, like
Daleks, Cybermen, Sontarans etc. but come up with some new ideas as well,
the format can accomodate it.
3. Cast a suitable Doctor. No Joanna Lumley or Nick Berry or other 'flavour
of the month' actor, simply because it will get ratings, but someone who
will actually fit the part. Rowan Atkinson was very good in the Comic
Relief thing or Ian Richarson who can do the drama and the comedy (qualities
essential for the Doctor)
4. A decent amount of money spent on it. Not a ridiculous amount, but just
enough that it looks good, without being overly flash.
Well, that's what I think anyway.....
