- I've got high expectations when it comes to X-Men. Maybe that's
why the comic disapointed me so much a few years back that led to me
jacking
it in. Having introduced several new characters and brought an older
obscure character into play they tossed it all in the bin and brought a
load
of older stuff back. Anyone read it recently ? What's going down ?
The last time I read it Cyclops and Apocalypse merged and then were killed
(yeah, right!). Some idiot calling himself 'the high evolutionary' had
The High Evoloutionary has been about for many, many years - back to before
I was born. His main tie in with the X-Men was he created the New Gods who
lived on Wudnagore Mountain, which is where Magda abandoned Wanda and Pietro
after fleeing Magneto.
turned every mutant into a normal human and then let Mr Sinister sieze
control of his gene tranformer. Mr S. is now planning to experiment on
everyone on the planet and there is no one who can stop him.
And Wolverine is dying from adamantium poisoning.
I've missed something here - W has his adamantium back ? ? ?
The fall of the X-Men as a comic book _probably_ happened when Marvel
started milking it for all the titles they could - at one pt there were
8
monthly titles (Uncanny XMen, XMen, XFactor, XForce, XMan, GenerationX,
Wolverine and Cable) which is a bit OTT.
I missed Excaliber - at a time when the team books were reproducing all over
the place - West Coast Avengers, Justice League Europe - this was the
English X-Men. Brilliant to start with, wheels fell off the Wagon very
quickly...
I think Phil is right about this. The X men range has gone down hill a
lot.
It's no longer about making good stories, it's just about squeezing every
penny they can out of us. The best x comic at the moment is 'Bishop - the
last x man' which is separated from the main x universe.
Loosing Bishop from the series was a mistake. Good Character...
Instead of trying to recapture past glories, the x range should model
themselves on DC's JLA comic, brilliant storylines, laughs without going
overboard and real drama. Brilliant.
I think if they'd have pushed on from the point they were at some years ago
we could have ended up with a new and very diffrent team. Nothing truly
inventive has been done since the reforming of the team in the 270s - the
run of Jim Lee stories that takes them to the Shiar Empire - it was after
then that the trend of bringing back older characters started which led to
us having a team nearly identical to that from 171 - 210.
