No that future does exist, the future that was averted was the one were

Babylon 5 and Ivanova sends out her distress call (War Without End) and
were Garibaldi does
his final stand (Babylon^2).
The future with G'Kar killing Londo *will* happen. Londo asks G'kar to
kill him while
the keeper (slug like thing on his shoulder) is asleep. G'kar kills him
as friendly gesture to help
him, Londo only strangles G'kar when he keeper wakes up and controls him
again. Centauri
Prime is ravaged by the Drahk (sp?), not by the Shadows (See reference
to the Drahk wars in
the Deconstruction of falling stars).

The Human at the end is actually a Ranger (note the Ranger brooch on his

This suggests that the Rangers (ie Humans *and* Minbari) become the new
Vorlons.
As to who becomes the new Shadows is open to speculation.
Also note that The Sun does not go supernova naturally, (in reality it
will probably turn
into a red dwarf in about 1 billion years, maybe...) The computer
system in the Ranger
ship specifies that it is continuing to note atypical solar
emissions...atypical meaning
something unusual is going on.
The following are quotes from JMS on the subject:
"[[12/24]] And what if you, say, interfered substantially with the
mass of the sun by,
say, causing a series of jump points to open up *inside* the sun across
several days?"
"[[12/24]] You'd also substantially decrease the mass of Sol, which
as I understand
it, would result in the sun going nova."
I suggest you take a look at the excellent Lurkers guide, which has an
indepth review
of every episode, including the digitally remstered pilot (+14mins of
new scenes) and
the first of the TV movies "In the begininning". The site does contain
spoilers for season
5 episodes so I suggest you look only at the UK episode guide which is
carefully editted
to contain no info about episodes which have not been aired in the UK.
This is were Mr Lyth gets his annoying spoilers which he like to post
every so often...
Paul.
