The internet is a funny thing: while searching for something else, I
happened across your StarFleet pages. I was amazed because I produced the
series for Central back in the early 80's, so long ago that I've forgotten
almost everything about it. It was originally Japanese, and we (Central)
bought it from a distributor called Yoshi Enoki. My job was to do produce
an English version - add a new music track and add English dialogue. The
Central graphics department came up with the logo, Paul Bliss did the music
for us (I still have his original demo cassette) and (if I remember
correctly) I get a credit on the show as 'Executive Producer'. The rest is
lost in the mists of time.
I can't remember what sort of deal we did for the rights: since it was
primarily intended for ITV, I imagine that Enoki kept other, foreign rights.
If Central retained any long-term rights to the project, they will be now
with Carlton, Central's successor. As I'm sure you'll appreciate, the
puppetry and general picture quality of the show makes it almost worthless
in today's animation market.
You're welcome to add my thoughts to your website, but please don't publish
my E-mail address - I don't want to be overwhelmed by 'Fleeties' !
Kevin Morrison,
formerly of Central TV, Birmingham
now of Hollywood, California!
