Hi all,
I found Lexx more watchable than some episones of BG and ST:V.
Yes the plot and dialogue was poor. But at least you don't get those
horrible monologues about "being nice to each other" and "the value of
friendship". But it's final saving grace was that it was DIFFERECT.
When all fantansy is a Tolkien/Dune clone and science fiction is
more like a ST clone every day (the last episone of B5 show was very
STish) any thing different must be applauded.
Even B5 has it bad points with the villains
going off in a suk. "My bat, my ball I am going home..." (The
shadows in B5 had the worse ending I ever saw...)
The same goes for books - the shops are full of novels base on TV series
and clones of LotR YUCK!. I think most book sellers are aiming science
fiction books at the younger audience (12-16 yr olds) and so are only
stocking books which appeal to them.
For those interested the names in the Donaldson books are all real Hebrew
words - why mess about making them up when you can just use real ones.
He also does trend to write some long boring passages in his books (his words
not mine!).
Daniel
