I've just finished reading the new Dune book, co-written by

scrawling notes on envelopes, fag packets, and lavatory walls. Admittedly
this is based on no actual evidence whatsoever, but I believe the gist has
some validity.
The question is, is it genuine or is it a way to gain validity for
the latest Dune book? After all, it was (presumably) him that
found the notes, yes?

3 prequels were based entirely on existing notes found after his
fathers death and from information from the Dune books and from a
half completed "Dune-bible" his father had written. Apparently he
never found much info about the proposed 7th book until recently
he was contacted by a bank is some US state that was auditing it's
safety deposit boxes and found 2 belonging to Frank Herbert. If he
does write a 7th book it will be based on notes contained in these
boxes.
vaguelly possible to verify. If this series starts getting publicity,
journalists are going to start asking to see the notes, etc.
I'm willing to believe he had loads of unpublished notes, and half-finished
bible thing, it's the secret notes in the safety deposit box that sounds
suspect. I don't object to him publishing his opinion as to the outcome of
the story, or even to him sticking the label "official" on the front of it
(a la Star Wars, Star Trek, and all the hundreds of other spin-off books we
have) it's packaging it as the original author's work that I want to have
verified.
