Maybe we need a new list , IFIS-Flirt perhaps :-)
and now on to matters sci-fi:
I've just finished reading the new Dune book, co-written by
Frank Herbert's son. "Prequel to Dune: - House Atriedes".
It's set approx. 40 years before the start of events in dune
and concerns the rising political situations that built up
to House Atriedes being given the fief of Arrakis.
This is the first of 3 planned prequels (others 2 to be
published later this year and 2001 respectively). It covers
the rise to power of Padishah Emperor Shaddam IV, Leto's
early years and Duncan Idaho's Harkonnen background. I would
certainly recommend it to any Dune fan, but I would advise
having read all 6 original books first.
Also of interest to any Dune fans is the fact that Frank
Herbert's son has recently discovered 2 safety deposit boxes
containing all Franks notes for his planned 7th Dune book to
round off the saga (Chapterhouse dune finished with a bit of
a cliff-hanger and a lot of loose ends). Herbert's son is
certainly very interested in turning these notes into the
the completed novel.
Cheers,
Paul.
PS> Chris - If you ask me nicely I'll write you a more detailed
review for the next copy of RWAV.
