Lexx

I saw last weeks episode of Lexx, and it was utter crap with some
pointless SFX thrown in for good measure. This leads me to doubt the
quality of the first one. However, I shall watch it this week, just to
see if it really does get any better. ( It's on about midnight on friday
on channel 5 in case anyone is interested. ) By the way, did anyone else
think the ship looked like someone had torn the head off a giant fly,
with spine still attached?

( I don't want emails telling me that flys don't have spines though, I
know, I just don't care that's all. )


Can I mention Hercules and/or Xena without getting mailbombed too
severely?


On another topic entirely, what are R2 units in Star Wars used for? C3PO
has an obvious function. Fluency in 3 million forms of communication can
be put to some use. The only thing of use that R2D2 seemed to do could
just as easily been done with a laptop, or a set of lock-picks.

Actually, if you see the Lexx from the back, it looks like a
dildo. (sorry)
Hercules is amusing in a there's-nothing-else-on-the-T.V.-and
-I'm-bored kind of way. Kevin Sorbo is very funny as a Hercules who
would rather have a quiet night in than fight monsters type of person.
Xena is much more interesting, although they are both utterly
ridiculous. By the way, where are they supposed to be set? Ancient
Hollywood, perchance?
R2 units have lots of functions. Beside being general purpose
repair/maintenance droids they also serve as the navicomp for x-wings
(which is why they can use hyperdrive and TIEs can't), a place to stash
a light sabre and also great target practice for storm troopers.
I'm sure someone will but I'm not going to.

I am on another mailing list (who isn't), that deals with Urban Legends.
One of the regular posters lives in the town where Xena and Hercules are
filmed. Apparently the main actors, if that's the word, are regulars down
t'pub.

I think you've missed the point of watching Xena. You watch it
for the fight scenes. There something about that evil grin, as
she stomps her way through the bad guys. Ignore the plot, it's
just there to give some semblance of structure to the fights and
bad jokes.

Think of it as panto, with fight scenes and your on the right track.

Hercules is okay, but it's just to goody two shoes for my liking.

Oh and to sell it to those who haven't seen it already, it's made
by the same people who made Evil Dead III.

I think they mention it in the book, when Luke and his uncle go to buy them.
Luke's uncle says he wants an R2 unit, and I THINK he says what for (or he
calls it by a more descriptive name).
As in "Didn't he steal lots of names and ideas from Tolkien?"
Ah, don't get me started on Thomas Covenant.
He's written several series of books, about 3/4 per series. All apparently in
the same "multiverse" - a similar concept to Moorcock I guess, although the
styles of the authors are completely different. His heroes/heroines tend to be
"The Last" this/that/the-other, usually "the greatest living swordsman"-type
stuff, but with enough novelty to keep the interest.
Start off with "Legend" - it's not the best, but it's the first, and the place
to start.
Dunno.
I gave up halfway through The Malloreon, and decided not to read him any more.
