She said currently availible so I assumed UK video. These 2 are only availible
in the states.
It helps to have seen Biolante, King Ghidorah, Mothra and Mecha G (in that
order) before Space G.
Destroyah you want to watch last (but before the new Japanese Godzilla 2000).
There's a running plot line going through the films but it won't spoil the
devestation of Tokyo in any of them if you don't.

The 90s movies are very good. I've got a complete set (from the original) up to
Destroyah if anyone wants to see. Biolante, MechaG, SpaceG and Destroyah are
all NTSC though

Off the top of my head IMHO.

Akira (generally recommended)
Ghost in the Shell (generally recommended)
Cyber City Oedo 808 (i'd recommended, 3 videos)

Devil Man (bit silly and weird, mileage may vary).
Doomed Megopolis (goes on too long without really getting anywhere).
Legend of the Four Kings (bit too predicatable for my liking but i know others
liked it).
Pat Labor (little bit too kiddies).
Legend of the Overfiend - Urotsukidoji (about adult as it gets, not actually
watched it all the way through yet).

Seen most of these available on video reasonably recently though the manga
sections of most shops seem to be deteriorating quite quickly.

I can't remember the amount we got at the fair, but I believe
it was a bit of a record. Other years got more members overall
but we grabbed one of the largest groups at the fair.
having popular video nights and allowing entrance to members
only. This means that some members only turn up to one event
a year (when they join) but looks good for getting funding.
You make the most of this with good advertising and a good mix
of films to show. Oh and watch the student union with their huge
screen TV it's not worth showing anything they have.

As for freshers fair the most important thing is to get a group
of people for the stand who'll enjoy freshers fair and put
together something eye-catching. It doesn't have to be a
large stereo rigged to a TV and video but it worked for the
Bob. The number of people who join IFIS may be proportional
to the distance between the IFIS and Gamesoc stands but that
might just be slander on my part.


At the end of the day if it's not fun then people'll just
go down the pub.

Committee's tend to have lives outside of their committeeship.

Having eyecatching video's was one part of our strategy. The
other was lining up shoulder to shoulder across the hall to force
people to look at the stand as they struggled past us. It's a
remarkable effective strategy. One which the current comittee
improved on with their fancy dress theme.

What else can be done? Expand the events we run! The film
evenings was only ever supposed to be a starting point. There
are lots of other things that you can do in that slot.

Other suggestions would include:

1)Guest speakers.

i)Sci-fi authors are probably costly, but worth checking. If
you catch them outside their promotional schedule, you might get lucky.

ii)College lecturers all have their own personal theories and
ideas. For the price of a meal, you could probably persuade someone
to give a talk on "The Physics of Time travel" or "The economic
impact of the Starship Trooper culture".

iii)Third Ewok from the Right. Lots of people get bit roles in
the famous movies. Some of them are actually capable of telling
enjoyable tales of the events.

2)Quiz's.

i)Sci-fi Trivia
ii)Sci-fi Pictionary
iii)Sci-fi Charades
iv)Spot the ball competitions. (okay maybe not that one).

3)Trips

i)Return to the Forbidden Plannet
ii)Rocky Horror
iii)Starlight Express

Now a lot of these aren't going to be feasible, due to price and
such like. For every event that the comittee can organise, there
another 3-4 that won't make it past the speculation phase. But none
the less, it's constantly pushing the boundaries that keeps the
society alive.
