PUBS!!!!!!
Hello!
It seems as though we have a problem! There isn't a single pub in the whole
of Englefield Green that everyone likes! AAGH!!! Anyway, here are my
thoughts on the matter:
Crosslands:
Cheap and very near Founders MLT, but unatmospheric and has no edible food.
Accepts RCS cards.
Stumble/Holloways/Tommys:
Cheap, but generally VERY crowded and noisy. No food.
The Monkey's Forehead: (R.I.P. Royal Ascot!! pleeeease come back!!! We miss
you!!!!! *sob!!*)
Near, but strange. Horribly trendy. Food.
The Armstrong Gun:
Great pub but very strangely laid out so we can't sit around and chat
easily. Also I think it's not too keen on students. Food (I think!)
The Holly Tree:
Small, quite crowded on Thursdays as it is their music night. The other
customers hate students. Also their "caution wet floor" sign from their
toilets is in my bathroom (a relic of the pub crawl!)! Don't know about
food, although the fish and chip shop is virtually next door.
The Happy Man:
If you manage to fit even a couple of people in here it would be a miracle,
extremely crowded studenty pub. Very nice food.
The Barley Mow:
Super pub, enough room for us, but a walk from campus and some say it's too
expensive, but I don't think it's any more than the Ascot was. About as
close to the Ascot as we can get. Food.
The Prince of Wales:
Strange small pub full of dirty old men and underage drinkers. No.
The Beehive:
Nice but very small. They also know who we are after The Ashtray Incident.
The pub down King's Lane, I think it's called the Sun:
I've never been there but apparently it's quite nice. But very far to walk
there.
The pubs in Egham are too far really, and that involves getting students to
walk back up the hill again if they live in Englefield Green or on campus!
So as you can see, the death of our beloved Ascot has spawned a large gap in
drinking facilities! In my opinion, the best bets are the Monkey's Forehead,
the Barley Mow or Crosslands.
I think we should vote on which pub to go to!
Phew! That was a long e-mail!
MTFBWY!
