This week's film : Brazil
Apologies for the late announce, this has been due to my harddrive
dying.
This weeks' Film is Terry Gilliam's Brazil.
7pm MLT - Thursday 8th February
=====================================================================
Sam Lowry is a harried technocrat in a futuristic society that is
needlessly convoluted and inefficient. He dreams of a life where he can
fly away from technology and overpowering bureaucracy, and spend eternity
with the woman of his dreams. While trying to rectify the wrongful arrest
of one Harry Buttle, Lowry meets the woman he is always chasing in his
dreams, Jill Layton. Meanwhile, the bureaucracy has fingered him
responsible for a rash of terrorist bombings, and both Sam and Jill's
lives are put in danger.

Perhaps it also needs mentioning that "Brazil" is absolutely
fantastic, that Terry Gilliam is an absolute genius who has never produced a
bad film and that I hope that it is the continental version that is being
shown (As the American version is frankly crap). Talking of which, does
anybody own the book "The battle for Brazil"?

It may only be 15 seconds shorter, but what a 15 seconds. :-)

Indeed. Those 15 seconds are what for me turned a good film into a work of
godlike genius. I cannot believe anyone would consider the film better
without it.

Incidentally, it *is* the full european release, if it's still my copy being
used. Complete with those essential 15 seconds.

"Director's cut" ???
Is this something I've missed?
Is it going to be different to the version I saw on TV (which does, of
course, contain the 15 seconds of doom).

In the US the European Version was eventually released as a directors cut...

So there was more than just 15 seconds removed then?

Guess so... (Pulls out search gubbins - looks around)
Have a look at this page...
http://www.trond.com/brazil/b_faq03.html
which details the differences between the 5 different versions... the one I
have is the (EV) version, it seems.
