IFIS Mailing Lists
I've just added (at long last!) a load of addresses from Fresher's Fayre
to this list, and it's probably about time I reminded people what's
going on anyway...
If you're recieving this, you are probably a member of IFIS - The
Institute For Impure Science - RHUL's sort of "science fiction, fantasy,
horror, cult, and other similar stuff" society. If you haven't got a
clue what I'm going on about, there are simple instructions for removing
yourself from this list.
This list - announce@ - is used to let members know what
films we're going to show, other events that we're organising, and
sometimes other important goings-on in the world of sci-fi (etc). It
tends to be pretty quiet - one or 2 emails a week.
We also have 3 other mailing-lists:
chat@ is by far the most popular. This is where members can
waffle on to each other to their heart's content, PREFERABLY about
IFIS-related stuff. It tends to be a lot busier - an average of about 10
emails a day, sometimes more, sometimes less (it's been pretty this
month, for no obvious reason). 10 emails a day is NOT busy for an email
list - I'm subscribed to several that have 30 or more posts a day - but
some members have complained about their email boxes "overflowing with
IFIS junk", and chat@ is bound to be what they're referring to. This
is why I no longer add people to the "chat" list myself - if you want to
join us all for a chat, you'll have to add yourself.
writing@ is for the exchange of creative writing. In other
words, somewhere where IFIS folks can post F&SF writings of their own,
and have them "gently critiqued" by the other readers. It's been
stunningly quiet recently.
project@ is for talking about the latest IFIS project. At the
moment, there's a vague plan that we make a sci-fi movie, I think... but
again, this is a stunningly quiet list - in fact my test post seems to
have been all that's ever appeared there.
REMEMBER, it's ifis.org.UK - if you forget the .uk, you'll get some
weird and wonderful stuff about food information services!
By default, new members are subscribed to ANNOUNCE ONLY. If you would
like to subscribe to any of the others, or indeed if you would like to
remove yourself from ANNOUNCE, please go to:
www.ifis.org.uk/social/forums/
This web page also gives better descriptions of most of the lists, some
guidelines for their use, and also a link to the ARCHIVES of past posts
to all these lists (except WRITING, which is not on the web for reasons
of potential copyright problems).
Please note that if you REPLY to this (or any other announce@) post,
your reply will go to chat@, so please DO NOT reply if you have
subscription problems. These should instead be directed to me -
nick@
Finally... if you recieve TWO OR MORE COPIES of this email, let me know
all your various email addresses and I'll see how you got subscribed
twice. Again, email nick@ - DO NOT just reply to this mail.
Thanks... and welcome!
