Couple of things

1. Channel 4 may not be giving it a massive blaze of publicity, but they
are starting to show Angel
as of this Friday at 6 pm. I can find no indication of late night uncut
repeats. (Some episodes will be cut
to ribbons, either that or C4 will be in deep trouble.

2. I have received only one article for RWAV. We have less than a month
left.

Hmm. I might be able to remember what it was like to have a tutor.
I don't mind having a bash at this one, but I don't watch everything.
I'll post a list of the things I watch soon, and ask other people to fill in

I can send you some reviews BUT I'll need to know which films haven't been
released in the UK yet ('cause you know that the US is the centre of the
known universe and nowhere else exists at all - sorry just had lunch with a
bunch if idiot yanks who thought they could take the mick out of the UK for
an hour and half and I wouldn't react at all) 'cause I don't want to give
anything away on them - I know X-Men has just been released; anyone know
when Space Cowboys is due out? How about the new Highlander film (which I
will be seeing this weekend).

Well if it's a careful review, it shouldn't matter. I hate film reviews that
give away the plot, but I WANT to read film reviews before I see a film,
because I want to know if it's worth shelling out money in a cinema for,
waiting for video, or waiting for TV.

Film reviews intended for people who've seen a film are rather late. That
makes them a critique, rather than a review.

e.g. "Highlander 4 is set on a distant planet peopled by small furry
immortal aliens" - good, because it tells me about a film without giving
away the plot.
e.g. "The pink alien's death in Highlander 4 is particularly comical" - bad,
in all respects.
It's previewing now, and opens 22nd September.
That looks like before the magazine comes out....
No idea.
Last I heard it was a rumour, which goes to show how out of date I am.

Please do review any or all of the above, and so long as you don't give away
any major plot twists, it should be fine, even if it pre-dates the cinema
release by a fair while.

Having been out of touch for a rather a long time I'll have to be excused
not knowing what RWAV is but from context I guess it is an Institute
publication. We had one once - literally - called the Impure Scientist.
Anyway, would you like some stuff from my archive: the Institute Circling
Poet's odes or the old bizarre proposed constitutional amendment for
possible inclusion? Memoirs of the old days, something like that?

Yes a fine and upstanding publication which has been under it's present
title for a good few years now. Edited by the great and the good. Then by
Me, Sean, Ads & Paul Bob * and Chris in roughly that order. If your time's
was Impure Scientist where does New Chronicle fit into the publications
picture ? I'd be able to tell if I could see the date on my copies - passed
to me by Danial when I inherited the chest.
Go on spill the beans on the dawn of time. Be fun for the rest of us
...... In fact a potential series chronicling the soc from days of yore
till now might be in order.....
The night before freshers fair is always a good time to be printing
magazines I feel :-) Sean and I tried this once....
Some other ideas - how about a DVD article with special ref to the sci fi
end of the market. We've a few long standing player owners in the
house...... On the subject of DVDs I've managed to replicate a few of my
videos now so I'm proposing holding a give away to the freshers come term
time ala my magazine clearout 2 year back. Unless anyone wants to buy some
from me now..... (ST:Generations [both editions], ST:First Contact,
Excaliber, Dune, BBC's The Planets)

I've already turned something in - finished the remaking Dr Who article
which started from our discussion early May. Since then the BBC Books
series has also turned their minds towards how to restart their range and
our results are surprisingly similar. However I'm up for a bit more
writing - got at least one day "Working from home" next week to avoid the
petrol shortages. 10 ways to spot if your tutor is an alien is very
tempting - a Boog joke is certainly in order there ....

RWAV was first printed in the academic year 88-89, and appeared immediately
after the RHBNChronicles, although that title was only used twice. Jeremy(*)
was responsible for the RHBNChronicles, but when Opus The Penguin took over
as editor, RWAV was born, and suddenly the mag wasn't shit any more. (Not
that I'm biased or anything.)

(*) I think his surname was Packer, but I might have got that wrong. Dave
could tell us, or it might be written in one of those early magazines.

I think any old material that comes to light should be copied and given to
the Secretary, or to a worthy individual for safekeeping.

Ack Thpfth!

My memory's fine, I was just being brief, and answering the one question,
rather than trying to give a complete history.

Jeremy invented 'RHBNChronic'les (I think the quote marks were there...) and
it was short, and dull. Then you volunteered to take over the job, and did
one or two more, in a similar format, following his specifications.

Then "Opus" took over, and the name was created during a brainstorming
session between Geraint and myself (not Lee). The new editors didn't feel as
constrained by issues such as truth or legality, and introduced more
pictures, cartoons, made-up celebrity sound-bites, and fake letters pages.
In between they did actually write some articles.
As do I, although they might be in a box in the loft.
Well, no, I was just treating your contribution as an extension of Jeremy's
administration. (sorry, that's my personal opinion showing through) The guy
was IFIS/GameSoc god for a couple of years, and dictatorially ruled the
roost.
Not offhand.
I can't remember how many RWAV I was involved in - Probably only two, but
possibly three. So 1 & 2 were definitely the 88-89 year, and 4 was certainly
the 89-90 one, but exactly which bits of them I'm not sure.

And this has got to be the most boring email for any current students I've
ever done.
