It's an interesting comparison... cos the droids are not just comic
characters. SW-IV (and to a lesser degree V and VI) is filmed from their
point of view, you see what they see etc. This was one of the important
aspects of the film (the idea was used in the Kurowusa film and a few
others before like the western Shame). What make this work either better
is making them almost completely innocence and helpless. Kids can easily
put
themselves in the droids place - and still be at the heart of the film.
This gave the film a great feel about it
and make it very cohesive.
Jar Jar is an almost comic character, errrr... that about sums it up for
him...
