library
Hi everyone.
Firstly, for those of us who are a little more busy on Thursday afternoons,
I have been given a key to the library. I am willing to help organize access
to the books on a flexible, request basis. Also, I had wondered if people
would want access on a Monday evening? This is something that some of us
have discussed off-list, but it appears no-one has said anything here.
For those of you who have not used the library yet, it is cramped in one
cupboard. We therefore need rows of pull-out shelves such that they will fit
the books in (as Nick has most eloquently described), to make the books
easier to get at, rather than 3 deep books. Unfortunately, to do this, we
need some custom-built thing, as nothing which can be bought "off the shelf"
fits. Now, this is going to cost some, although it is well worth it in
comparism with the two new cupboards we would need otherwise. I hear though
that we_do_ have the money as the Union finally admitted to us having the
extra 300 pounds of social fund. In reference to discussions I heard third
hand, social funds _can_ be spent on a "social" event, but can most
certainly be spent on books, cupboards etc cetera. It is the theoric that
had the restrictions on what you spent it on- so it had to be books or games
or other assets/events relevant to the society function.
Hopefully, if we can get some agreement on this, some more _new_ books can
be got!

So, if we can get that sorted out, we can spend some more on some _new_
books at last!
