where to buy DVD's

anyone know:

Where is the best place to buy DVD's online at the moment.....

I have checked www.101cd.com but they dont have what I want....
I have tried Amazon (cos their a reputable suplier):
amazon.co.uk dont have them (the titles I'm after are Region 1 only)
amazon.com do have them.... but there prices didn't seem that good!
and with postage it would over 55 for two titles!

Which are currently the reputable online DVD stores?

Don't worry. It was a perfectly sane query. Not some mad
ranting complaint about people sending SF relevant mails

Richard uses DVD Box Office, I believe (I'll check) which seems to charge
similar numbers to the US places but in Canadian dollars. :-)

Indeed. DVD Box Office (www.dvdboxoffice.com) are excellent. A couple of
other sites are as cheap but the killer is that they do not charge P&P. Thus
if you order a single DVD you end up paying between UK10 and UK18. This is
below the minimum order that is liable for import duty and hence there is no
chance of you getting charged by Customs, a slim risk anyway. The only thing
to remeber is that your credit card company will probably charge you a fixed
fee for ordering in a foreign currency. This will be about UK1.50. I usually
order films 2 at a time and have never been charged after about 50 films.

If you want some comparisons of US companies, try
http://www.dvdpricesearch.com This is an excellent site where you can enter
the films you want and it will go through the databases of most of the major
online companies and tell you the cheapest place including postage and any
special offers.

Finally if you want something in a hurry, try http://www.dvdmod.com This is
the only UK site I know of that still stocks Region 1 films. They're more
expensive than the US but I use them occasionally as they do run UK10
specials.

I generally use the Canadian outfit DVD Box Office, although the US guys DVD
Express work too. On the surface their prices are cheaper, but they charge more
for postage. There's a small australian company you can get region 4
titles from if you want, but I've forgotten their address.

Hi,
I saw the new Dax on cable and must say that she is *very* cute;
something worth watching DS9 for!

I saw "Total Rekal" last nigth - a new series on cable. It was
advertised as a "Total Recall" series - but strangely
enough it wasn't. In fact it was based on the "Blade Runner" film - with
very few elements from "Total Recal"; but it
was mildly interesting. The only problem being that it could end up
being another "X-files" clone.

watch out for the Dax murder mystery episode, it's class.

SkyTV is heavily backing the SF show; they had so far got the lot: DS9;
Crusader, oh
sorry I mean Crusade, I don't want to hit by 4 tonnes of napalm; ST:V
etc. Meanwhile
there is very little on normal TV and nothing new.
The problem with this is that the cable channels are very consertative,
most of the
series they are showing are all very similar - a team of detectives
investigates
strange alien occurrances or comic book swords and magic.
But on the good side, this is much better that is has been since the
days of Dr Who,
ST and B7.

LEXX is new, and it's been perking up of late. Sadly, it's due to end this
week.

On the repeats front, we've got
B5 - currently halfway through series 2.
American Gothic - quasi-horror, but still within the IFIS SF/Fantasy remit.
Earth: Final Conflict - This turned out to be ok, actually.
Hercules - Never watched it, but it might be ok.

and I'm sure there's a couple I've missed, like the star treks, and 3rd rock
from the sun.

On that subject I'll quite happily appologise if I offended said unhappy
student - as I've already mentioned on the gamesoc list I've been in
something of a tetchy mood recently (lack of sleep - will explain bizarre
events leading up to this is asked) and as such my reply was probably a
little more venemous than it needed to be - however, when I wrote it there
had only been one reply, which my wonderful brunel inbox wouldn't let me
read... it would let me see the header but it wouldn't let me get the
message body - lovely brunel IMAP servers that decide to suddenly stop
giving me access for no apparent reason... but I digress....

Anyway - I'll appologise for the wording, however the sentiments remain
valid... I suspect that this person's error can probably be put down to a
simple mistake caused by not being that familar with mailing lists...

Oh... on the OTT replies thing, I think your Troll Response Form may have

Probably, since most of the DVDs we (I've just bought a player) are buying
are probably SciFi/Fantasy. For example, I've got The Matrix on order -
I think it might even have arrived but I won't know until I get back to
work *8(.
Ok - point taken - I'll try and remember this next time we wanna get rid
of someone. *8)

As an aside I didn't think Jon is a member officially - just one of the
many "camp followers" we seem to aqquire and he you have to admit - he was

The look and feel and most of the characters where taken from Blade
Runner,
there were andriods etc. and also the Total Recal corp. I was confused
as well
as I couldn't see where the series was going.

As already mentioned by many others DVD Box Office are very good, prompt,
and have free delivery to this country.

I can also recommend DV-Depot, who are about on a par with Box Office price
wise, and have some very good pre-order deals and specials. The URL is

Got any good disc recommendations - I can whole heartedly recommend the
Ghostbusters disc. Tons of extra footage.
