B5: Crusade. As if you couldn't guess....

Both "Grail" and "Late delivery..." are great eps.
JMS has stated he wouldn't object to every copy of Grail disapearing offthe end of a pier. But that's just an aside
"Late delivery..." has quite a bit of depth to it as it ties into many
aspects we are only just learning at the time. This was a great aspect of
B5, one which rarely appeared in Crusader.

If we are comparing dire eps then I must admit that both B5 and Crusader
hastheir share (Gray 11 or what ever number it was is just pointless - same
withTKO).
Grey 17 is Missing. Only redeeming feature is Marcus' battle with NeroonBut with Crusader they were mostly dire;
the eps with the "I forgive you" monster was so lame it was amazing.
But did help to provide an insight into the characters.....the eps with the "I forgive you" monster was so lame it was amazing.
As for exploring old planets - is this why they are always going back to
B5 or adding asguards to a conference or finding a graveyard etc.
Ours is not to reason at the orders the top brass give.... The Graveyard ephad loads of tech in it they could of used - it held up against the
exploration theme.
This just isn't the sense of pending doom there should be, the virus is a
great driver fora plot, but it wasted in too many eps. The whole thing feels like a
inexperience roleplaying group, where every body has their own thing and keeps to
themselves. Instead ofdoing the obvious - getting together in a room and pooling their
resources. This gives in avery unreal feeling.
I interpretted it as a team of specialists working together each beingcalled on as needed.
In B5 the main characters did get together and explain things to each
other and act as ateam. Surely the trained crew of a warship can do this.
The command staff of B5- yes to some extent. But they all had the stuffthey didn't share - Sheridan was an agent for a section of the military who
didn't trust the president, Ivanova hid her Telepathy, Garibaldi his
drinking, Franklin his stim addiction, Talia's personality, Lyta's
alterations by the Vorlons....
As for the Alien races - 2 of which were virtaully at war for most of B5, 2
were manipulating the others behind the scenes and hiding the truth from
others.
Everyone allowed their personal agendas to get in the way of what they were
meant to be doing - Sheridan going to Mars to rescue his father just as his
forces are aprocahing Earth, Marcus deserting the battle to try to save
Ivanova, Garibaldi's Alcholism interfering with his work ..... All had
their reasons for doing so....
My feeling is that - bar Gideon's reliance on the Apocalypse Box - all the
Earthforce personale on the Excaliber are pulling in the same direction.
It's the outsiders - who we see more of than Earthforce - who are hiding
stuff and do have their own agendas
Eilerson - loyalty to IPX
Dureena - desire for revenge against the Drakh
Galen - protection of the technomages secrets - where they are, the source
of their tech - vs his desire to help the humans.
Kim has obvious loyalty to Earthforce and a desire to suceed and not put a
foot wrong as an example to teeps.
Lochley we all know about.... probably.
The doctor seems rather bland in terms of loyalty and stuff - just wants to
do the job. So she's obviously got some deep dark secret somewhere ....
Besides a let's go down and explore this planet for it's age old secrets
show would be a bit boring without a little bit to spice it up. And given
our experience with JMS & B5 - supposedly a show about a space station,
actually a show about a war and it's causes and consequences - before it's
likely Crusade would have turned out to be about something diffrent. The
Qs Who do you trust and Who do you serve are recurring themes - actually
touched on above.... The title insinuates a war maybe against the Drakh -
a crusade to drive them out ?
