Some time ago, Phil said:

I thougt that was his cloak falling separately to his body, not his legs. I'll have to see it again to be sure though. :-)

And while we're on the subject - Why didn't Qui Gon do the fade out bit ala
Yoda, Ben & Ulic Qel-Dorma when he died ? Answers on a postcard...

Well, Anakin Skywalker didn't fade away at the end of Jedi. They needed a body to burn. Same here. It seems they only fade away if a funeral would cause an unwelcome break in the film. Anyway, who is this Ulic bloke?

Well that could be for several reasons.

1) Obi Wan is old, must be at least ...oooh 30. He could be senile *P)
2) C3PO has a new body by #4.
3) Once you've seen one R2 unit you've seen them all?

I could be wrong, but I don't remember Obi Wan and C3PO actually meeting in the film. I don't remember Threepio leaving Anakin's home, and I don't remember Obi Wan ever going in there. Another excuse to see it again...

One of the books makes it clear the body did the fade out and all they burnt
was the armour.

Ulic Qel Dorma is a Jedi knight from ancient time - featured in the tales of
the jedi comics.

in the film. I don't remember

Just to make sure, I saw it again last night (have some folks over from the
UK office who hadn't seen it and it is definitely his legs falling
separately to his upper body.

Just to make sure, I saw it again last night (have some folks over from

the

UK office who hadn't seen it and it is definitely his legs falling
separately to his upper body.

There was a version floating around in the states where this was less clear
....

Lucas had it altered, but some copies still made it to the cinemas and were
quickly withdrawn

wrt the Council member who seemed to have the same name as a star system, or
planet, or whatever... So what?

People are named after places all the time. It might be a continuity or
scripting error, but not necessarilly.

More disturbing is the appearance of ET in the council chamber (which I didn't
spot, but I'll look out for in future). Does this mean we're going to get a
grand drawing together of all SF films in future Star Wars?

Will Skynet send intergalactic terminators back to "a long time ago" for
reinforcements? Will Anakin Skywalker build a black monolith out of used
speeder parts in his shed? Will the Clangers flee Imperial tyranny and set up a
small base on a moon "far, far away"?

You heard it here first.

I suspect you have to be very in sync with the force, to just be
absorbed in. Qui Gon, was a very independent Jedi (not to mention
a lot younger than Ben and Yoda) and thus didn't have the necessary
one-ness with the universe.
