Lighsabre Safety Warning !
You've probably all read about it in the papers by now but
http://www.hasbro.com/consumer/safety.html has the official word from
Hasbro on the Lightsabre safety scare. And in case you haven't a few of
the new Lightsabres (30 in 600,000) have been prone to overheating the
batteries and blowing up somewhat.
As I understand it this only applies to the Qui Gon Jinn Lightsabres (we
don't have any) and Darth Maul Lightsabres (we have a few of them .....
Charlotte, Giles, Liam, Steve, Adrian, Andy, David have all acquired them)
Someone might like to contact Hasbro UK and explain they were given one as
"a gift" by someone who brought one back from the states and see what they
say ....
It _does_not_ apply to the Luke Jedi and Darth Vader lightsabres that until
recently were our favourite choice of light up plastic toy for whacking
each other round the head with.
As a consequence of this I'm having a little trouble finding the last 6
Darth Maul Lightsbares I need - so we'll probably have to wait till the
safe ones come out.

First I've heard. When you say 'blowing up somewhat' are we just talking
batteries that make a mild popping noise, or is it akin to holding a live
grenade? In other words, are we talking mild shock, or a trip to the A+E?
In my own experience of these things, I have discovered that after about a
minute of disuse, they turn off automatically. I have also found that it is
also nearly impossible to use them without accidentally hitting the off
button every so often. I can't imagine mine seeing enough use to warrrant
too much concern.
Also, has anyone bought Dreamcast Star Wars special? The free catalogue with
it lists the DM lightsabres at 50. FIFTY QUID? For that I would want a real
one.
