P.S.
Excuse my ignorance but who is Peter Jackson?
Peter Jackson is an incredible producer/director and was the subject of an
Imprompu evening of films at my place last friday night / saturday morning.
His films include:
*Bad Taste* (1st film last friday)
Low (read: NO) budget comedy horror. Peter Jackson himself appears in this
film at least twice, once as a lead character, once as a recurring bad-guy.
Script, Effects, Production, Editing & Direction and pretty much everything
else by Peter Jackson. Top film, very silly. Exactly what PJ intended.
*Meet The Feebles* (2nd film last friday)
I've only seen this one once, but it's basically a muppets parody, dealing
with their backstage lives, drug habits, sex lives, arguments, affairs,
diseases & disorders. I found it a bit slow to start, but once it got
going, it had some very funny moments. Exactly what PJ intended
*Brain Dead* (3rd film last friday)
Peter Jackson has his first taste of a budget... Better production quality
and actual paid actors (some of whom have even been in other films) abound
in this tale of love against a background of zombies & guts. Tagline: "A
heartwarming tale of a boy, a girl and their powertools". Peter Jackson
appears in at least 3 minor roles in this film, which has produced such
wonderful dialogue as "I kick ass for the LORD!" and "Your mother ate my
dog!"
"Well, Not all of it..."
Once again (spot the emerging theme...) Exactly as PJ intended it...
*Heavenly Creatures* (Skipped on friday)
This is the film where Peter Jackson proved to the world conclusively that
he is a very talented film-maker who so far had chosen to only make low
budget comedy horrors & shockers (Meet the Feebles is quite shocking).
Nominated for an oscar for best screenplay (sadly didn't get it) and noted
as Kate Winslet's first film, although she's out-performed by Melanie
Lynskey, and numerous members of the Braindead cast also appear. About two
teenage girls who form a fantasy world as an escape from their dull &
oppressed reality, and who find that the fantasy becomes too vivid, with
dramatic consequences.
*Forgotten Silver* (skipped 'cos nobody has it)
I've not seen it as it's never been released in this country, but it's
apparently a very realistic pseudo documentary about a new zealand film
maker who was making color talking films before everybody else in the
world... apparently it's very well made, and I've often been told it's even
more deserving of praise than heavenly creatures...
*The Frighteners* (film number 4 on friday)
Peter Jackson with hollywood backing, a very good, very slick horror comedy
based around Michael J Fox (in a very good perfomance) as a person who can
see & talk to ghosts, who uses these skills to con people. Until people
start being killed by a ghost, in a way that is a bit too familar....
Peter Jacksons future film plans are as follows:
He's making a live action, three film trilogy based on books whose text he
worships: Lord of the Rings.
Adrian etc...
