extarordinary AGM

Dear members,
there will be an gm after the film on thursday to pass the motion to change
the role of the current treasurer Despina to become assistant and for lee to
become the official treasurer.
The main reason for this proposed change is because I feel more confident
with the role of assistant as it may also put a strain on our friendship, as
he is a good friend and I feel as if it is not fair as i did not origanally
want to go for this role. Sorry for any problems caused, I hope you can
understand

Those are executive posts, decided by election, not Committee fiat.

If you want to both resign, and stand for re-election, I'm sure you could.
Somebody else could stand for election at the same time - and they might
win.

The posts are not co-opted, and trying to co-opt them would be against the
IFIS constitution - or at least the parts inherited from the SU
constitution. Alternatively you could change the constitution at your EGM
and then co-opt your elected posts. I'd vote against the constitutional
amendment: historically IFIS has often had problems with Committee
ignoring
membership. You also might have problems with the SU.

In the past, the membership has reminded chairmen that they are
accountable
by booting them out on "no confidence" motions at EGMs. That's worth
bearing in mind.

This isn't committe fiat deciding. Despina wants members to vote on a job
swap for both of us. I won't be resigning from any position as I think I
will be a benefit to IFIS next year, and I am completely happy with being
assistant treasurer, a motion which was passed at the AGM.

bloody swap both have already been elected,

This on the other hand would be completely unconstitutional.

The rules are there for a reason. As you say they both have
already been elected to their _current_ posts. Some strange
warped individual out there may feel that no one with socks
like Lee's should hold the post of treasurer. By just having
a swap your making it very hard for that individual (or cabal
of sock haters) to make their feelings known.

The only reason not to would be if there really is a secret
war between dastardly factions of IFIS.

I THINK it would be constitutional just to have a show of hands "for"
and a show of hands "against" the swap. If the evil sock haters want
to make their opinions known, they'll vote AGAINST the swap, and then
we can go through the whole nomination/re-election waffle if we need
to, surely?
