Previously:
Steve, you're never there!
(Wednesday) from 1-3pm. There are zillions of books to
borrow, including shedloads of new Star Trek books.
Please come along and give me a raison d'etre. I get so
lonely up there with nothing but the SU photocopier for
company...
I'd like to say that this is a scandalous fib. I was there last week, and I
was there yesterday, from 1pm until 3pm, as advertised. Ask the three (3)
people who saw me there, running the
library. Of course, if people actually
turned up, they'd realise what a splendid job I do, which they seem to
ignore. I don't *have* to spend my Wednesday afternoons in that little
sweatbox outside the Ents office, getting asked how to work the photocopier
or being told that I'm blocking a fire escape. I don't *have* to stand there
while people open the door too bloody fast and hit me in the kidneys with
the doorhandle. I don't *have* to give myself a hernia lifting down shelves
of books so someone can get a Douglas Adams books down. But I do. And I do
it willingly. And it's all for the purpose of providing YOU, the members of
IFIS, with a valuable service which seems to be totally ignored by the vast
majority of you. I'm sure you have all heard of the
IFIS library by now. God
knows it's been advertised often enough, with very clear instructions as to
the location and the hours of opening. But at best I stand there for two
hours, and maybe three people, IF I'M LUCKY, will turn up to peruse the 3000
science fiction and fantasy books which the society gives them access to.
That's THREE people (and God bless them, they prevent it from being a
totally futile exercise - you know who you are, you who make my life
worthwhile. I thank you for showing more interest than everyone else). Do
any of you wonder why I might occasionally say "sod this, I've got better
things to do" with a turnout like that?
