Thus follows a lenthy discussion of the technical details of Galaxy Class
Starships and Imperial Star Destroyers. Appologies to all those who are
bored by now and are reaching for their kill files to insert my email
address in it but ......

Weaponary: 10 ? Phaser Arrays & 3 Photon Torpedoes
(One of which is concealed in the rear of the saucer sectrion and may only
be used in separated flight mode)
(For the record the Enterprise A was 300m Long and the E 680 m Long)
Deployable Vessels - Shuttlecraft & runabouts

Imperial Star Destroyer (ISD):
Length: 1600 m
Main Weaponary:
8 Turret Gun Stations
2 Ion Cannons <- We'll be talking about these later
90 Turbolaser Implacements
Crew: No figures availible but an ISD does carry 9700 Stormtroopers
Deployable Vessels inc.
8 Lamda Class Shuttles
4 Squadrons of Ties
1 Squadron of Tie Bombers
1 Squadron of Tie Interceptors
As you can see the ISD is a considerably larger ship than the Galaxy class
ship - up to 2.5 times the length and getting on for 8 + times the volume
(sorry no height & width estimates for ISD's but we can see the proportions)
So and to quote Chris White
And it doesn't matter if the shield generators are behind shields beacuse
imperial sheilds are pants. Just check out the films for that.
Tie Fighters (and pilots) are considered expendable by the Imperial Navy
_and_are_not_shielded_
(DV's Tie in SW was)
In fact during the SW Trilogy we see Imperial Star Destroyers damaged by
enemy fire twice.
Once in ESB when the Hoth Base Ion Cannon (no I haven't forgotton) fires on
an ISD, and in ROTJ with the well known kamikaze A-Wing Super Star Destroyer
Bridge incident.
This was not a matter of a couple of ships taking out an SSD.
Some while earlier in an act of desperation to evade the Death Star General
Calrissian proposes that the massed rebel fleet attack the Star Destroyer
Fleet. After that point Admiral Ackbar orders the entire Rebel Fleet to
"concentrate all fire on that super star destroyer" So the Executor was
coming under quite a barage by that point.....
How many times have you heard Mr Worf use a phrase along the lines of
"Shields down to 52% Captain" as the Enterprise is asaulted ?
..... It was only after a gap was opened in the fwd deflectors that the
rebels were able to destroy the shield generator and thus ram the bridge.
I counter that Imp shields are better than Fed ones from this evidence.
But what about those Ion Cannons you mentioned I hear you say ?
I quote p84 of SW:W&T
Ion cannons "which appear to be std laser bolts, actually disable the
targeted ship's electronic and computer systems instead of causing physical
damage. Ion Canon blasts overload and fuse circuitry, blowing out
computers, flight control systems, sensors, shields, and weapons. While Low
Powered Blasts may cause only minor systems damage, a poweful blast can
cripple a ship for several minutes"
Nasty things. How did they damage that ISD in orbit thought with it's
shields up ?
"Since Ion cannons are unimpaired by energy shields, ships have no defence
against them short of reconfiguring their shields - and that would make the
shields useless for absorbing std energy blasts"
F***. The enterprise is a bit shafted against that isn't it ?
ISD's come from an era which is obviously several hundred years
technologically more advanced than the Federation. Their ships are larger
and designed for war with a larger variety of weapons, heavier shields and
more armour than the average all purpose fed ship. I believe that the ISD
would win an encounter between these 2 types of ship
If people are debating about the federation vs imperial, then Borg vs
imperial would be over pretty quickly.
Not so sure. Think the imps could put up a fight, but would loose.....
...... unless a certain Black Armoured gentleman was present....
