Folks
Hi, I am new to the list and many of you don't know me. I was the
IFIS
chairman around 1988, you got it I'm one of those damn ex-students. Those
of you who do know me, please get in contact, its been too many years since
we saw each other.
Are the meetings still at the Ascot on Thursday evening at 8pm?
On an SF note. Has anyone seen the new Voyager on Sky, I suspect they are
trying to move it back to STOS. Janeway actually broke one of The
Federations rules, to the disgust of Tuvok. And, we are back to self
exploding instrument panels and real aliens that are nasty, not politically
correct Aliens speaking American English. There may well be life left for
Voyager yet!

Hello, I wouldn't worry about being an ex-student, the students are rapidly
becoming a dying breed *8(.

Yup, we've still kept that part going.

Well ST:V is more like ST:OS in that they are really boldly going where no
man has been before. Unless ST:TNG where they are just running around known
space sorting out everyones problems.

If I remember correctly - you were the committee that first started going to
The Ascot. You've got a lot to answer for.

Probably. I seem to remember that the year before (1987 ?)
IFIS almost died
as there was no where no meet, and the
Library was hidden in an attic in
Founders somewhere. In a stroke of pure genius, and alcoholicism, we choose
the Ascot as a meeting place. The fact that myself, Jeremy Packer and a few
others spent the better part of every evening in the Ascot discussing
research and the best beers in no way swayed our choice of venue. Glad to
see it was a good choice and still used. Dave, the Landlord, should at
least buy me a free beer for creating so much custom for him. I mean, ten
years of drunken students descending on a bar once a week must be a fair
amount of income.
Dominic.

There are indeed still meetings at the Ascot by the
IFIS soc (or is
it called SF soc now ?) On occaisions there might even be someone you
recognise.

I keep an eye ou for it.
Good to hear from you Dave,

Hello Dave,
I'm Luke Dalli, the current sucker who was conned into
thinking that
IFIS chairman was a piece of cake. Anyway in case you
don't already know, we are still down the Ascot on Thursdays. On the
voyager front I'm pleased to see that I'm not the only person in the
world who has decided to give it a chance. Can you tell me if the
two-parter "The Basics" is worth buying? If you're looking for for a
really crap series to take the piss out of may I reccomend Space: Above
and Beyond. This makes Plan 9 Fom Outer Space seem good.
See you down the pub,
Luke
