Hi,
I thought I'd post my findings on the sci-fi film front. Following is a list of
films in development that look set to be hitting the screen sometime in the next
couple of years:
Star Trek: Insurrection is ready to roll out on December 11th 1998. This is a US
date but I guess we should get it some time this millenium.
Ender's Game - an absolutely classic series of four books by Orscon Scott Card,
the film in currently in development. The IFIS library has the series and I
hearily recommend it.
Hitch Hikers - Douglas Adams said "The best thing I can say about the movie is
that it will be specifically contradicting the first book." Scary...
Jurassic Park 3 - Looking like a Summer 2000 release, this will no doubt have
even less plot that "The Lost World". Impossible you may thing - don't
underestimate Hollywood.
The Martian Chronicles - currently in the script stage, Ray Bradbury's classic
tale is also heading to the big screen. Currently tipped as going to Amblin
Entertainment (Spielberg), Bradbury has said he'll only allow it to go ahead if
he approves the script.
Rendezvous with Rama - currently in development, this is being directed by David
Fincher and stars Morgan Freeman. Touted to be released at the end of 1999.
Fahrenheit 451 - Directed by Mel Gibson, this remake is currently in early
development.
X - The Man with X-Ray Eyes - currently in the script writing stage, this remake
of the classic 1963 film is being directed by Tim Burton.
Wing Commander - directed by Chris Roberts (the director the of games), this is
being backed by Fox. A cast list is around if anyone's interested.
Universal Solider 2 has been greelighted by Columbia Pictures for an August 1999
release. Starring Van Damme of course it'll no doubt be more of the manic midget
doing his stuff.
Mad Max 4 - again in the script stage this is being backed by Universal Pictures
and is being directed and produced by George Miller. Release dates are way off
yet.
That's all for now,
Richard
